Foundations Community Partnership recently awarded a $10,000 grant to the Miracle League of Northampton.

The grant will be used to build “Miracle Field,” a sports field that has a rubberized playing surface suited for wheelchair and walker use. The specialized surface will allow the Miracle League to make a variety of sports available to individuals with disabilities, as well as create a place for local groups, including Special Olympics, Woods School, Variety Club, the Paralympics and various sight-impaired organizations.

The League provides sports opportunities to special needs children with autism, Down’s syndrome, ADHD, cerebral palsy, Jacobsen Syndrome and other physical and mental impairments.

“Their grant will help special needs athletes have full access to their own sports field. Foundations understands and has embraced our cause, which is to give our athletes the opportunity to compete, be successful and gain self esteem,” said Miracle League vice President Deborah L. Katz in a press release.
